VAN: Jayco Starcraft Outback
WHERE: Ben Lomond Station (on HipCamp) Whitsundays, QLD

Ben Lomond Station is an 1800 acre working cattle station, located halfway between Proserpine and Bowen in the Whitsundays, Queensland.

Access is by 4WD only, as high clearance is needed for the dips and corrugations, but our trusty 23ft Jayco Starcraft Outback made the journey with ease once again.

With only 5 campsites, they are designed to be secluded and with lots of wide open space for the kids to run free.

You also need to be self contained although there is a “Thunderbox” drop loo, it is a bit far from all but one of the camp spots.

Our site no. 5 was under the Cabbage Gum trees with gorgeous views of Ben Lomond mountain.

Each site also has a campfire area and firewood can be purchased from the property owners, and for only $20 they will deliver a ute full (we still had lots left over after 3 nights).

We saw an abundance of birdlife, wallabies, kangaroos, cattle roaming through the paddocks but didn’t get to spot the resident crocodile.

A big draw is the estuary fishing and crabbing at Eden Lassie Creek (can also launch a tinny for ocean access) which borders the property, stargazing under the huge dark skies and soaking up the serenity.
COST:  2A (kids are free) $103 for 3 nights inc HipCamp fee
